This may be my favorite of your fine substack essays. I often think of Frank & Bethine Church, and all the things they did for this state, this country.
I take comfort in wild places like The Frank because I sense that just as these places existed for nearly 2 million years before humans crawled upright, hopefully they will continue and evolve in their wild ways for millions of years after we've made this planet uninhabitable for humans and too many of our beloved animals and plants. I believe these wild places will outlast us. They will change, certainly. But they will endure.
Great article - it’s tough to use my own words to describe what the MF means to me, and always more resonate to read what others have to say. I literally can’t imagine my life without all those days in that canyon, and always looking forward to the next opportunity to return.
